Domestic flights do not create another international entry. Leaving Vietnam does: a single-entry visa cannot be reused simply because its printed expiry date has not arrived.
A multiple-entry visa accommodates repeat entries within its approved validity. It does not restart a new 90-day period every time you return.
How Long Is a Vietnam E-Visa Valid?
The maximum is up to 90 days, with single- and multiple-entry options. Request dates appropriate to your plans, then use the approved document as your reference.
For example, a visa valid from 1 November to 30 November does not move its expiry to December if you arrive on 10 November. The usable period becomes shorter.
Check the Vietnamese arrival date, especially after an overnight flight. Do not schedule arrival before the visa starts or departure after the permission available to you ends. Once admitted, also check the stay information recorded by Immigration.

Use the passport you intend to travel with. Government-hosted application guidance advises at least six months’ validity upon arrival. Confirm the current requirement for your document and journey, particularly if expiry is close or you hold an emergency travel document.
Renewing first can prevent a mismatch later. Do not assume an approved visa transfers automatically to a replacement passport.
Portrait photo
Prepare a recent, clear, front-facing photograph against a white background, without glasses or a hat. Avoid filters and do not crop the portrait out of your passport scan.
Government-hosted instructions dated 3 November 2025 specify a 4 × 6 cm portrait in JPG/JPEG format under 2 MB. Check the live upload field before submission: these specifications were not independently confirmed on the functioning application form during this review. Do not rely on old 50 KB instructions.
Passport data-page image
Capture the entire identity page clearly, including its edges and the machine-readable lines at the bottom. Avoid glare, fingers covering text and cropped passport numbers. Zoom in before uploading: information should remain legible.
Use the current passport-upload format and size limits shown by the portal; do not assume they match the portrait field.
Travel details
Have your intended arrival and departure dates, entry and exit points, accommodation address, accessible email and payment method ready. Use genuine details. Ask your accommodation for its current address if booking platforms display inconsistent administrative names.
How to Apply for a Vietnam E-Visa Step by Step
The following is a practical workflow, not a promise that every screen will appear in this exact order. Follow current portal instructions whenever the interface differs.
Step 1 — Open the official Immigration portal
Start from one of the two official domains above. Choose the application route for an individual foreign applicant. Check the address before uploading identity documents.
Step 2 — Read current instructions
Read the eligibility, declaration and upload guidance. If a requirement is unclear, resolve it before continuing. A compulsory field is not an invitation to invent an answer.
Step 3 — Upload photo and passport page
Place each image in the correct field. Inspect the preview and any automatically extracted details. Optical recognition is useful, but you remain responsible for checking its result against your passport.
Step 4 — Enter personal details
Match your surname, given names, date of birth and nationality to your passport and the form’s instructions. Include required middle names; do not substitute a nickname.
For a single name, unusual name order, accents or transliteration, follow the portal’s passport/ICAO guidance or obtain official clarification. Do not improvise a surname to make the form accept the application.
Step 5 — Enter passport details
Check the number, issuing country, passport type and dates character by character. Compare the letter O with zero and the letter I with one. Use one passport consistently across the application and travel documents.
Step 6 — Enter contact and occupation information
Use an email you can access abroad. Provide truthful contact, occupation, accommodation and other requested information. If a question does not apply, follow its instructions rather than inserting a fictitious employer, host or address.
Step 7 — Select single or multiple entry
Review the whole regional itinerary. A short Cambodia side trip matters even if most nights are in Vietnam. Select the option matching your intended international movements.

Compare the dates with your flight itinerary in local time. Request sufficient coverage for your genuine plans within the available limits. Check the day/month/year format carefully before moving on.
Step 9 — Confirm entry information
Select the correct border gate, rather than only the nearest city name. Check any requested exit information too. Land travelers should confirm the exact crossing with their operator and the current official list.
Step 10 — Review everything
Read the completed application against your passport, one field at a time. Review dates and entry type separately. A second careful reader can spot mistakes your eyes have become accustomed to overlooking.
Step 11 — Save the registration code
Save the application number or registration code as soon as issued. Keep it with the email used for the application and a copy of your submission. Store each family member’s reference separately and securely.
Step 12 — Pay the government fee
Follow the portal’s payment process. Check the amount and selected entry type before authorizing payment, then save confirmation. If the transaction seems incomplete, check its status before paying again.
Step 13 — Track the application
Use the official portal’s application-status function and the identifiers it requests, including the application reference, email and date of birth. Monitor correction requests as well as the final result; do not rely entirely on an email arriving.
Step 14 — Download the approved visa
When the official result is available, download the e-visa. A submission confirmation or payment receipt is not an approved visa. Save the file somewhere accessible without mobile data.
Step 15 — Check all visa details
Compare the issued document with your passport and itinerary: name, passport number, nationality, birth date, validity and entry type. Resolve discrepancies before travel. Approval does not make an incorrect passport number harmless.
Step 16 — Print and prepare for travel
Print a legible copy and carry it with your passport. Keep an offline digital backup. For a family, use clearly labeled files so nobody presents another traveler’s document at check-in.

Ask any service provider to separate its charge from the government fee. Your bank may also apply conversion or transaction charges; check before payment rather than treating every advertised package price as an official visa fee.
How Long Does Processing Take?
Official application guidance uses three working days after payment and sufficient, valid information as the normal processing reference. Additional verification can take longer. It is not guaranteed approval within 72 hours.
Apply well in advance once your passport and travel dates are settled. As a planning recommendation, leave several weeks where possible, with additional room around Tet and public holidays. This is a buffer, not a separate processing promise.
Do not time a non-refundable flight around the shortest advertised turnaround. Corrections, holidays and unresolved payment issues can consume the margin you thought you had.
